Abi's Big Swim

Abi's Big Swim

One of our senior instructors (Abi) and her cousin have set themselves the challenge of swimming 10km (NON-STOP!!!) down the River Dart on the 14th September 2019.

Abi’s amazing effort is to raise money for Level Water a charity that gives specialist one-to-one swimming lessons for children with physical and sensory disabilities.

Level waters hope that if each young person is taught to swim 15m they can be safe around water and enjoy life in and around water. Also, through developing independence in the water, and being able to join mainstream classes, each child develops confidence, self-esteem and resilience.

Abi like Level water and all of us at Reach Outdoors believes that everyone should get a chance to swim.

Abi’s story; “I wanted to challenge myself this year to mark my 30th and I knew I had to do the Dart10k the moment I heard about it. I hope this will spark the first of many swims. Nat and I have already signed ourselves up to a warmup 4km swim on Dartmoor, Sunday 16th June. If I survive, I'll be looking forward to September's main event. Please help us on by donating today.

I've always enjoyed a dip in the sea and with a lot of water sports under my belt I thought the 10k would be great fun, a doddle even! Months into the training, I've started to realise how bonkers swimming 10k in cold water is going to be. However, I'm still enjoying every length and open swim (except the brain freeze)”.

You can help Support Abi by sponsoring her at her just giving page, and help a child enjoy the water and be safe in and around the sea.
