2022 Seasonal Instructor Recruitment

Reach Outdoors are recruiting Seasonal Activity and Lead Instructors to work as part of our Team in 2022. 

Overview:

Reach Outdoors are now recruiting Seasonal Instructors and Seasonal Lead Instructors to join our team in Torbay, South Devon. Our season of employment runs from May to the end of September (induction in April), with the potential for continued employment into October and November.

Your employment will start with 2 weeks of induction and training before joining our established team delivering adventurous activities across Torbay, Dartmoor and South Devon. We have the full range of clients from year 1 primary to multiday expeditions and everything in between. A range of day sessions and residential trips means that no two days will be the same and you will amass a huge amount of experience through the season.  

Experience and Qualifications:

We are looking for Instructors who have a minimum of one years' experience within the industry and at least 2 activity leadership awards. A Lead Instructor would need 3 higher level awards and a minimum of 2 years' experience. Rates of pay will be based on age, levels of experience and qualifications.

Desirable Activity Leadership Awards and Experience:

  • MT Summer Mountain Leader; Hill & Moorland Leader; Lowland leader.
  • MT RCI; CWI; MCI.
  • BC Level 1 & 2 or Paddlesport Instructor with Core coaching modules;
  • BC Sea Kayak Award; BC Sea Kayak Leader/Coach ;
  • BC Sheltered Water SUP Award or DSM, BC SUP Coach or Coastal Leader,
  • Paddlesport Leader, BC WW Leader,
  • D1 Minibus Licence; D1 with driver cpc.
  • GNAS.
  • Coasteering leadership experience (up to date logbook).
  • Gorge Scrambling leadership experience (up to date logbook).
  • Team-building and group games/activity experience. 
  • Bushcraft Leadership Award or experience
  • LCMLA training or Pridhamsleigh Cavern site specific statement of competence by CIC
  • 16 Hour Outdoor First Aid within the last 3 years
  • Safeguarding Training

Working Week & Rates of Pay

Each contract will be for a minimum of 37.5 hours a week throughout the contracted period. This will include flexi-time meaning some weeks may be below 37.5 and some above to enable us to deploy staff effectively during particularly busy periods. We pay the Real Living Wage as a minimum for all of our employees aged 18 or over. 

Activity Instructor: £19,305 - £20,475 (pro rata, dependent on experience and qualifications)

Lead Instructor: 21,450 - 22,425 (pro rata, dependent on experience and qualifications)

South Devon & Torbay

We love our playground and we reckon you will too. Torbay has loads of rocky places to explore and paddle around and South Devon is chock full of secluded beaches and empty footpaths waiting to be discovered. Coupled with the beautiful Tors of Dartmoor within 20 minutes' drive and the surf beaches of North Devon and Cornwall an hour away, we think this is the best place in the UK to work if you love what you do!
