REACH OUTDOORS ARE RECRUITING A PERMANANT SENIOR INSTRUCTOR 

Overview:

Reach Outdoors are recruiting a Permanant Senior Instructor to join our team in Torbay, South Devon. 

This role is to assist Reach Outdoors in the delivery of its operations as an outdoor adventure provider. Predominantly a delivery role, the person in post will have additional responsibilities including junior staff management, project leadership, product development, training and observation of instructional staff and kit maintenance. The post will require some overnight responsibilities and working some evenings and weekends.

The employment will start with an induction and training period before joining our established team delivering adventurous activities across Torbay, Dartmoor and South Devon. We have the full range of clients from year 1 primary to multiday expeditions and everything in between. A range of day sessions and residential trips means that no two days will be the same and you will amass a huge amount of experience in this role.

Essential Leadership Awards & Experience:

  • At least three of:
    • Mountain Training CWI, RCI or higher level qualification
    • British Canoeing Paddlesports Leader or equivalent instructor qualification
    • British Canoeing Sea Kayak Leader/Coach or SUP Coastal Leader or equivalent
    • NCC Coasteer Guide Training or Assessment or Coasteering Leadership Experience (up to date logbook)
    • Mountain Training Hill & Moorland Leader or Mountain Leader
  • 16 Hour Outdoor First Aid within the last 3 years
  • Safeguarding Training
  • Minimum of two years’ experience as an outdoor instructor

Desirable Activity Leadership Awards and Experience:

  • Gorge Scrambling Leadership Experience (up to date logbook)
  • Bushcraft Leadership Award or experience
  • Archery GB Instructor Award or in-house training/experience
  • Team-building and group games/activity experience. 
  • Local Cave and Mine Leader Assessment (LCMLA) training or Pridhamsleigh Cavern site specific statement of competence by CIC
  • D1 Minibus License; D1 with Driver CPC

Main Responsibilities 

  • Leading adventurous activity sessions for a range of clients including: Adult groups, Families and Youth groups. 
  • Lead the delivery of Duke of Edinburgh award expedition training and practice, in modes of travel where the Employee is suitably experienced and qualified. 
  • Lead in the delivery of Duke of Edinburgh Gold residentials. 
  • Lead in the delivery of Reach Outdoors long-term Education development projects. 
  • Lead in the delivery of Adventure residentials as a project manager. 
  • Lead in the delivery of Princes Trust Team residentials. 
  • Out of office Duty Manager responsibilities, which require the employee to be able to support project leads at short notice. 
  • Line management of Instructional Staff. 
  • Delivery of training for Instructional Staff. 
  • Observations and reporting on Instructional Staff. 
  • Manage the Reach Outdoors activity kit and PPE including inventory, checks and procurement. 
  • Assist Reach Outdoors with any General administration where required. 
  • Product development and project management 
  • Manage the Equipment maintenance systems within Reach Outdoors SOPS 

General Responsibilities 

  • Ensure the safe delivery of adventurous activities in line with Reach Outdoors standard operating procedures at all times. 
  • Ensure Reach Outdoors equipment is maintained to a high standard and is fit for purpose at all times.  
  • Promote Reach Outdoors in a positive light and be an advocate for positive outdoor engagement to encourage and support youth development in the outdoors. 
  • Be involved in the monitoring and recording of soft and hard outcomes as required by the Reach Outdoors Directors. 
  • Drive company vehicles to delivery locations if suitably qualified. 
  • Transport Reach Outdoors Clients in a company minibus if suitably qualified. 
  • Ensure that you are aware of the programme and your role on any given programme or session. 

Working Week & Rates of Pay

Starting Salary: £24,336 

The contracted hours are 37.5 hours a week. This will include flexi-time meaning some weeks may be below and some above to enable us to deploy staff effectively during particularly busy periods.

South Devon & Torbay

Coupled with the beautiful Tors of Dartmoor within 20 minutes' drive and the surf beaches of North Devon and Cornwall an hour away, we think this is the best place in the UK to work if you love what you do!
