We offer the sea kayak award over 2 or 3 days - it depends on your experience. You can take part on either a sit on top kayak or in a closed cockpit kayak.
If you have some experience in a closed cockpit kayak (wearing a spraydeck), or want to paddle a sit on top, then you can go straight into the 2-day Sea Kayak Award course. Suitable experience will require you to know how to: self-rescue and have paddled wearing a spraydeck before if in a closed cockpit.
If you don't have any experience in a closed cockpit kayak, or you just want to have a go, you should join our 1 day Introduction to Closed Cockpit Kayaking. This course will take place before the 2-day Sea Kayak Award, preparing you in the best way possible. More details can be found HERE.
The 2 day Sea Kayak Award will develop the skills required to safely plan and execute journeys in the environment. Over the course we will visit a variety of venues with a range of conditions to really develop confidence and depth of knowledge.
We are based in sea kayak award heaven! Torbay has a great range of sea kayak environments to explore. Sheltered bays, expansive cliffs, small surf beaches, we really do have it all on our doorstep. You will meet each day at our Centre on Goodrington Beach before heading out onto the water.
We can provide Sea kayaks, Paddles, Spray decks, Buoyancy aids and Paddling attire. However if you have your own gear then you are welcome to use it!
The 2 day course costs £180 per person. This includes use of any required equipment.
The 1 day Introduction to Closed Cockpit Kayaking costs £75, so if you do the 3 days, the total cost is £255.
Please note that this course does not guarantee acreditation in the award. By the end of the 2 days, if there are elements of the syllabus which have not been demonstrated you will be given a development plan and can come back to demonstrate at a later date or for further training. It is recommended that you have some kayaking experience prior to this course and have paddled on the sea before.
