Sea Kayak Leader
Awarded through British Canoeing, the Sea Kayak Leader award is for anyone who wants to lead sea kayak journeys in moderate tidal water and up to force 4 winds.
This award also allows you to deliver British Canoeing Personal Performance Awards, such as Paddle Start, Paddle Discover and the Sea Kayak Award.
To qualify as a Sea Kayak Leader, you must complete an assessment which is typically one day.
There is also an optional training course, which we offer over 2 days, to help develop your skills and work towards assessment.

What are the prerequisites?
For the training, you must have experience sea kayaking in moderate tidal water in up to force 4 winds.
For assessment, you must hold the following:
- Safeguarding Training (within last 3 years)
- First Aid (within last 3 years)
- Coastal Navigation and Tidal Planning course
- Full National Association Membership
- Be at least 16 years old
- Register for assessment with British Canoeing (an additional fee may apply).
How long is the course?
Our training runs over 2 days from 9am – 5pm.
An assessment is typically one day.
How much does it cost?
The training costs £220 per person for 2 days (9am-5pm each day).
Assessment costs £200pp for a 1 day assessment
