The course is aimed at experienced paddleboarders who want to lead groups on sheltered tidal waters such as estuaries, tidal rivers and sheltered coastal locations.

No formal leadership qualification is required, but you should be a confident paddleboarder with good personal skills and experience paddling in tidal environments.

Courses are based in South Devon and delivered by Reach Outdoors. Exact venues are chosen on the day according to the weather, tide and sea conditions to provide the safest and most appropriate environment for learning.

The course covers tidal planning, weather interpretation, navigation, leadership, group management, rescue techniques, dynamic risk assessment and decision making while leading others in tidal environments.

The course duration follows the Paddle UK syllabus. Training courses are typicallly 2 days, Assessment are usuallly deivered in one day.

Yes. The SUP Tidal Leader Award is a nationally recognised Paddle UK leadership qualification. Please note you need to complete an assessmnet to gain the qualification. Training is highly recommended followed by a period of consilidation and then an assessment.

You are welcome to bring your own paddleboard and equipment if it is suitable for the course. Quality equipment can also be provided by Reach Outdoors if required.

You'll receive a joining information pack before the course, but you'll generally need suitable paddling clothing, footwear, a buoyancy aid, appropriate safety equipment (if using your own kit), food, drinks and a change of clothes.

The venue is selected to match the forecast conditions wherever possible. If conditions are unsuitable for safe delivery, we will rearrange the course to an alternative date.

No, If you feel you meet the required standeard as detailed in the Assesment guidance you can book a direct assessment, that said, training is highly recommended.
