Learn to Climb & Refresher Sessions (ages 16+)
We run regular learn to climb & refresher sessions for adults (ages 16+) wanting to learn (or recap) the basics of climbing and belaying (managing ropes safely while a partner is climbing to catch them if they fall and lower them safely).
These are small group sessions run by a qualified instructor. Climbing is a social sport and a great place to meet others. It is an all body work out and great for the mind too, problem solving and working out how to climb those trickier routes!
Participants must be 16 or over & under 18s must have signed consent from a parent or guardian before attending.
Please note: Courses are subject to minimum numbers and booking in advance is essential
Learn to Climb - for beginners or those new to climbing:
This is a 2-part session, with 2 x 1.5 hour sessions on consecutive weeks. NEXT DATES: 3rd & 10th April 2024.
You will learn to:
- Climb confidently and trust the equipment you are using
- Fit your personal safety equipment such as a harness
- Tie your rope securely and safely to you harness
- Belay and lower your climbing partner safely
- Safely use an indoor climbing facility
- Use different devices & equipment
- All the necessary safety equipment is provided and you will have the opportunity to quiz the instructor for tips on kit and climbing techniques.
While we recommend 2 x 1.5 hour sessions for beginners to learn the basics of climbing, due to individual learning speeds, these two sessions do not guarantee being signed off as a "competent belayer" for open climbing sessions at climbing walls. Supplementary sessions can be provided if required.
Prices: Individual: £30 | Pair: £50 | 7pm - 8:30
Refresher Course
Go through the ropes and get confident belaying and tying in again. It's a great opportunity to ask any burning technical questions and pick up those coaching tips to take your climbing to the next grade.
Prices: Individual: £15 | Pair: £25 | Thursday 7pm - 8:30

What participants learn in our climbing clubs:
- Safety is paramount at Reach Outdoors. So, all young climbers are introduced to the responsibilities of looking after others and themselves in this new environment. Gaining the ability to assess risk and manage themselves in new environments is a great life skill.
- What's not to love about learning knots! Our young climbers learn all the technical skills needed to fit their safety equipment and even how to help others. Climbing is all about teamwork, and their is plenty of opportunity to build friendships and trust when holding the ropes for their team.
- An abundance of active games to play from jumping, hopping, running, balancing, not to mention the CLIMBING!
- That feeling of achievement when you finally reach the top! Whether your climber rockets to the top first time, or feels achievement in every step further from the ground; our instructors are on hand to help your climber reach their potential.
