Brymore School BCU 1 Star Award

Reach Outdoors were delighted to have had the opportunity to work with 11 enthusiastic young lads from Brymore School, Cannington, Somerset over the past three weeks.
The boys from Brymore took part in a three week British Canoe Union 1 star award which saw them paddle two different venues in Somerset and Devon.
Braving freezing temperatures during the first week with a thin layer of ice on the river the group managed to progress from novice or having never paddled before to develop a skill set to competently paddle a journey along the Exeter Canal.
The course, which required self-rescues as an assessment criteria, saw the boys capsize in cold spring water temperatures to swim their craft safely to the bank. Kept warm by thick 5mm winter wetsuits the spirits within the group were high throughout.
Reach Outdoors would like to thank all those that attended for their commitment and determination to complete their awards. The boys from Brymore School behaved impeccably, provided a great laugh and were good ambassadors for their school.
