Paddle Boarding – why has it got so popular?

It is rare not to see someone paddle boarding along the coast or on a river or lake these days, according to the Telegraph (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sponsored/why-not/11796028/how-to-stand-up-paddle-board.html) “Stand up Paddle Boarding (SUP) is the world’s fasting growing water sport”. It is possible that SUPing’s popularity and growth can be contributed to many things, but its mass appeal is surly in how accessible it is to everyone everywhere (with water).
We run paddle board session and hire, and we see all ages, shapes or sizes taking part. The people that visit us soon get standing up, exploring and paddling around the coast. After a little while longer most are moving around with confidence and a lot of our guests who take part in our sessions remark how much easier it is than they thought.
Most of our customers who hire manage to stand up by them selves and work out how to get around within the hire time, however with some key instruction like with our sessions (1.5 hours and 3 hour) everyone manages to get up and go on to journey away from the bay with confidence.
SUPing unlike many other adventure sports doesn’t take much to fully take part in it whereas surfing for example could take more time to get up and going and you’ll need the right conditions, whereas SUPing can be done in most water types and conditions (flat water is recommended for beginners, sea or inland). The growth of the activity also means there are now many clubs allowing for greater access into the sport.
Another possible reason for the popularity and growth of the sport is the variety of board manufactures now making more affordable inflatable boards, meaning far more people can take up the sport. The inflatable boards that fits in a bag, so easy to store and transport could also be another key reason why so many people are taking part. Along with the different manufactures there are also many different types of boards for different types of paddle boarder taking part in many different types of Paddleboarding.
Weather you are new to the sport or have been doing it for a while you cannot deny the pull and popularity of stand-up paddle boarding and the technology of inflatable boards has advanced and progressed this. It really is a growing activity for all and it has taken reach outdoors by storm.
