Wild kayaking expedition – Your own coastal adventure!
01 August 2019 by Richard Hanbury
Ever wanted to set off on your very own adventure? You could cast off from the heart of Torbay led by our expert guides along the stunning coastline of Berryhead, Sharkham Point and Dartmouth.
Along the way, you will explore sea caves and spot a variety of wildlife such as seals, coastal birds and possibly dolphins (only if you are fortunate). After getting to grips with the kayak and bonding with your fellow adventurers, you’ll stop for lunch at one of the many hidden and spectacular coves along your route. There you’ll soak up the stunning surrounding sea cliffs and rest before continuing your voyage to a secluded beach to set up your wild camp.
At camp, you will enjoy a rustic meal of Mackerel and foraged shellfish (of course only if the fish are biting during the day, a backup hot meal if not) all cooked on an open fire with a glass of wine. After dinner, you’ll settle in for a night under the stars with only the crackle of the burning fire, and the sea lapping on the beach as the background music for you and your fellow adventurers swap stories into the night.
The next morning you’ll wake up to watch the sunrise over the horizon with the smell of breakfast cooking. After a relaxed morning meal and maybe a refreshing wild swim, you’ll pack up camp for your second day of adventure.
On our most recent expedition, the group of six adventurers started their voyage at Goodrington Sands in Paignton before heading off along the coastline towards the fantastic sea cliffs of Berryhead, stopping for lunch along the way at Fishcombe cove. The group made their way around to Scabbacombe Sands for the nights Camp, covering 16km.
On the second day and after a cooked breakfast of sausages the team set off from camp and headed inland for lunch near Kingswear and Dartmouth’s historic castles. After lunch, the group paddled up the river Dart to get to their destination of the small riverside village of Stoke Gabriel where the team celebrated their arrival with a drink — again paddling 16km.
Included in this package, you will have access to top of the range kayaks and all related equipment needed to make your adventure as comfortable as possible (cags, flotation devices, tents, etc.). You will also have highly qualified kayaking guides who can coach you on the route and tell you all about the scenery and wildlife that you encounter.
The evening meal, breakfast and lunch on the second day included in the price.
